Cell Line Identity Verification

Whenever cells are grown in culture there is a risk of inadvertent addition and subsequent overgrowth by cells of another individual or species. Cell identity can be determined by a variety of molecular immunological and cytogenesis tests. MDS's cell biology division offers the following panel of tests to identify cell lines and their origins.

• STR DNA profiling
• Customized Genotyping Projects
• Fluorescent antibody staining
• Isoenzyme profiles for species verification
• Intraspecies cross-contamination verification
• Cytogenetic analysis including Karyotyping / chromosome analyses / G-banding
• DNA fingerprinting of human cell lines
• Isoenzyme analysis

Some projects require a variety of technical approaches to identify the traits or genes of interest. For example, some experiments may require both SNP and STR data or may require comparison data to earlier genotyping methods such as RFLP. MDS will work with the client to incorporate the technology needed into a unified project. When searching for novel genes, identifying SNPs in a population, or detecting de novo mutations in known genes, MDS' sequencing capacity can play an integral role in identifying key information leading to more complete knowledge of the trait under investigation.
